"Anything happen with the
kids? Is the house still stan-
ding? Is the dog OK?"
The pair are now schedul-
ing games for the 1991 girls
basketball season. Next
season's schedule includes the
basketball playoff finals for
boys and girls in the Western
Lakes Activities Association,
which includes schools in the
Farmington-Walled Lake-
Livonia-Plymouth area.
When scheduling in advance,
they first check the calendar
for dates when they do not
want to work, including Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
How long will they continue
officiating? "It depends on
how I feel," says Kaczander.
"If I'm still in good shape and
doing a good quality game
out there than I wouldn't
mind going another 8-to-10
years."
Hurshe's goals include do-

ing a high school quarterfinal
basketball game. He would
like to do the state finals, as
well as Division I basketball,
but feels those goals are not
realistic.
"I'd like to be a well-
thought-of official at Division
II and III at the college level,"
he says. "And I'd like to do the
biggest and the best and the
most important high school
games in the area. I would be
very satisfied with that. I' m
looking forward to refereei ng
the Maccabi Youth Game s in
Detroit next year."

Kaczander wants to work a
solid schedule of Division II
games, but most importantly,
he wants to just keep work-
ing. "It's a joke with my wife
and I," he says. "'When you're
70 I'll just have to drive you
to the games and pick you up
afterwards.' "111
