Names Deitch

Laurence B. Deitch, a prin-
cipal in the Southfield-based
law firm of Simon, Deitch,
Friedman, Siefman and
Green, has been appointed by
Gov. James Blanchard to the
bipartisan, four-member
Michigan Civil Service Com-
mission for a seven-year term.
As a member of the
Michigan Civil Service Com-
mission, Deitch will share •
responsibility for administer-
ing Michigan's personnel
system which employs 60,000
people, hires about 3,000 new
employees each year and
spends 15 billion taxpayer
dollars annually. Members in-
clude attorney Alan A. May of
Bloomfield Hills.

CAJE Award
Established

New York — A scholarship
fund in memory of the late
Abraham A. Spack has been
established by the board of
directors of the Coalition for
the Advancement of Jewish
Education (CAJE).
The fund will be used to
send high school and college
students to CAJE con-
ferences, the once-a-year
meetings that bring together
nearly 2,000 CAJE members
from the United States,
Canada, and other parts of
the world for a week-long im-
mersion in Jewish history,
heritage, culture, and tech-
niques of teaching.
Scholarship students will
be selected on the basis of
their expressed interest in
entering the field of Jewish
education.
Mr. Spack, - a Jewish
educator for six decades, died
in November. He was a
founder of the Jewish
Educators' Assembly of the
United Synagogue of
America.
