Dating Coach To Teach
Singles How To Mingle

DEBBIE L. SKLAR

S

outhfield lawyer Shel-
don Kay says he has a
tremendous amount of
charisma — but that won't
stop him from attending a
special seminar that may give
him more.
Kay, along with other
singles, will have the oppor-
tunity to attend "The Secrets
of Charisma," a full-day
seminar sponsored by In-
terActions Inc. and WOMC-
FM at 9 a.m. on Sunday at
the Southfield Hilton.
"I'm going because I'm not
into the bars and this may be
a good place to meet some-
one," says Kay, 39.
Kay says he usually meets
women at the Franklin Rac-
quet Club, Plaza Deli and at
parties. "I'm also going to
this seminar because I may
want to conduct a similar one
in the future."
The dating coach is Bill
DeLano of DeLano Training
Systems, headquartered in
North Carolina.
"I encourage the single per-
son to reach immediate goals
in order to feel in charge and
in control of this aspect of
their life," says DeLano.
In business for six years,
DeLano, 28, has spoken
worldwide to thousands of
single men and women. He of-
fers an action plan for singles:
Follow a series of well-
executed steps to market
oneself in the singles world.
"I help to motivate single
people so they can market
themselves effectively," he
says. "This can range from
helping a single network for
platonic friendships to
developing resources and -
hands-on techniques for
dating and/or establishing
long-term relationships."
DeLano says the seminar
will help teach the right
techniques to expanding
social life, developing a broad
circle of friends and loving
relationships, learning the
modern day art of flirting,
rapport and creative dating.
DeLano believes the results
of not making changes in life,
even though they are
challenging is loneliness,
despair, frustration and no
hope of new prospects. "What
I try to do is build those
bridges that draw more loving
relationships into one's life,"
he offers.
DeLano says the perfect in-
gredients for a good date in-
clude a relaxed, comfortable
situation with a natural at-

traction — called rapport.
Being relaxed on a date, he
advises, is the most important
tip to remember.
"This isn't something that's
going to last the rest of your
life," he says. "It's only a
date."
DeLano says it is likely that
if you're feeling uncomfor-
table during the date, so is
the other person.
"I tell people to come right
out and say how they feel," he
suggests. "Try something dif-
ferent on the date if what you
planned isn't working out —
be creative. Today, it's a lot
easier to be in love that it is
to be attracted."
He plans on teaching other
techniques at the seminar to
help singles experience a
good date.
DeLano's seminars have
traveled to California,
Arizona, Florida, Colorado
and is a first in Michigan.
