kosher certification in
Michigan!' Rabbi Goldman
contends the statement is in-
accurate and casts doubt on
other kosher sanctioning
organizations doing business
in Michigan, including Rabbi
Goldman's Metropolitan
Kashrut Council.
The rabbi estimates that
there are 12 organizations
supervising kashrut in
Michigan, including the
Union of Orthodox Jewish
Congregations of America,
Circle K and others.
The rabbi's son, Akiva, is
an attorney in Madison
Heights and filed the suit on
behalf of his father. Akiva
Goldman says he discussed
the issue with an attorney
representing the Council and
wrote "numerous letters"

asking for a retraction.
The lawsuit asks for a
public retraction but does not
request monetary damages.
Rabbi Goldman says he has
lost no business as a result of
the statement, "but it is not
something that I can allow to
pass."
Council director Rabbi
Chaskell Grubner referred
questions about the case to
attorney Lawrence Jackier.
A suit filed last year by
Rabbi Goldman against Bor-
man Foods was settled out of
court. Akiva Goldman says
his father, as a result of the
confidential settlement, gain-
ed back most of the business
he lost after Paul Borman
ended Rabbi Goldman's
kashrut sanctioning at Bor-
man Foods.
