The 1989 youth awards pro-
gram of the League of Jewish-
Women's Organizations of
Greater Detroit will be held
on Feb. 26 at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek at 1:30 p.m.
The League of Jewish
Women's Organizations an-
nually honors high school
seniors. Students who apply
for these awards must have
high scholastic averages,
leadership in the community,
volunteer and service ac-
tivities, a Jewish education
and letters of recommenda-
tion. A written essay also is
required.
This year the topic is "Anti-
Semitism — Personal
Strategies for Coping." The
students also are interviewed
by several judges.
Cash awards are given by
Betty Silverfarb.
Rabbi Irwin Groner will be
the keynote speaker. The
sisterhood of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek will serve
refreshments. Charlotte K.
Nussbaum and Eadie Albion,
vice-presidents of the league,
are co-chairmen of the youth
awards program. The public
is invited.
