ra WHO ARE THE. MASONS? o- Shifman 65th Anniversary . Mr. and Mrs. Mendel Shif- man of Southfield will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this month. Mr. Shifman, who was in the retail business for 40 years before he retired in 1958, is a past president of Congregation B'nai David. He is an honorary life member of Mosaic Lodge of the Masons. Mrs. Shifman is a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Jewish National Fund Women's division, Turover Farein and Mizrachi Women. The Shifmans, who were married in Rochester, N.Y., in 1924, have two surviving sons, Aaron and Alvin, nine grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Mazer 60th Isabel and William M. Mazer of Southfield recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their entire family met to celebrate in Chicago. Joining in the celebration were their children, Mr. and Mrs. William Mazer, Jr. and Bar- bara Mazer of Bloomfield Hills, Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Schrayer and Mrs. and Mrs. Lewis Saltzman of Chicgo. Also present were the Mazers' 13 grandchildren. ' LOCAL NEWS The Southfield Public Library's 1989 Battle of the Books will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Southfield Civic Center Pavilion. Twenty-nine adult coaches have worked with teams corn- prised•of 169 fourth- and fifth- grade students who live or at- tend school in Southfield or Lathrup Village. The par- ticipants read from a list of 15 books since November in preparation for this event. The public is invited. A reception will follow.
