The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies, a division of
United Hebrew Schools, an-
nounces its fourth Bargman
Scholar-in-Residence will be
Prof. Murray Rosman.
Prof. Rosman, an historian,
teaches at Bar-Ilan Universi-
ty and Hebrew University. He
has published widely and has
taught courses in modern
Jewish history, history of the
Jews in Poland, history of the
Jews in Russia, Chasidism,
Jewish autonomy, Sabbat-
ianism and the Chmielnicki
Revolt.
He will teach several
courses for the Midrasha in-
cluding "The Making of the
Modern Jew," Feb. 8-March 1,
and "The Jewish Experience
in the Modern World," March
8-29.
In addition, Prof. Rosman
will teach a graduate course
for principals, educators and
other interested individuals
entitled, "The History of the
Jews in Eastern Europe from
Early Settlement Until the
1880s — Sources and Con-
cepts." This course will be
available for three hours of
graduate credit at Wayne
State University and four
hours of graduate credit at
the Midrasha. It is being of-
fered in cooperation with the
Allan/Touro College and
Wayne State University,
department of Near Eastern
and Asian studies. It will be
held on Tuesday mornings at
9:30 a.m. from Feb. 7 to May
9.
A course for high school
seniors interested in advanc-
ed placement college credit
will also be offered by Prof.
Rosman. Co-sponsored by the
Prof. Murray Rosman
Community Jewish High
School of United Hebrew
Schools and the department
of Near Eastern and Asian
studies at WSU, the course
entitled "Modern Jewish
History: 1880-1980" will be
offered on Tuesdays beginn-
ing Feb. 7 at 3:30 p.m., and
will meet for 14 weeks.
All courses will meet at the
Sigmund and Sophie Rohlik
Building of the United
Hebrew Schools, 21550 W. 12
Mile, Southfield.
Prof. Rosman will speak to
the community on the follow-
ing topics: "Events that
Shaped the Modern World,"
"Jewish-Gentile Relations
Throughout the Ages," "The
Faces of Jewish Religion
Since 1700," "Jewish
Strategies for Living in the
Modern World," "The
Emergence of Chasidism,"
"The East European Jewish
Experience," and "Models of
the Jewish Community:
1600-2000."

JPI Offers FLEX Program,
Hosts Shaliach Lectures
The Jewish Parents In-
stitute, a secular Jewish
ogranization affiliated with
the Jewish Community
Center, announces that on
Sunday students in third
through eighth grades will
participate in FLEX
program.
FLEX allows students to
select elective courses in
Judaica for a seven-week
period on Sunday mornings
as part of their Sunday school
experience.

The JPI announces that
Yefet Ozery, community
shaliach, will speak to its
students and adults on Sun-
day at the Maple/Drake
Building of the Jewish Com-
munity Center.
He will meet with students
at 10:15 a.m. in the board
room. His topic will be "One
People — Many Faces — The
Story of the Yemenite Jewish
Community." He will tell the
story of Operation Magic
Carpet which brought
Yemenite Jews to Israel in
1949-1950.
He will speak with adults
in room 150 at 11 a.m. His
discussion topic will be "The
Current Situation in Israel."
The public is invited to both
discussion groups free of
