A recent illness kept her
from performing for several
months. Able to travel again,
Friedman said the illness
made a "tremendous impact"
on her work. "It heightened
my spiritual awareness," she
said. "It was like a transfor-
mation, an affirmation of
faith. You never can lose
faith. You have to hold on,
believe and pray."
Prior to her illness, she had
a "hectic and crazy schedule,"
traveling every week for con-
cert dates. She hopes to
resume that schedule when
she is fully recovered.
In addition to performing,
Friedman has served as
music director at the
Brandeis Bardin Institute
and held the Isaac D. Sinalko
Chair in Music at the 1987
conference of the Coalition for
the Advancement of Jewish
Education (CAJE). Last sum-
mer she performed at the San
Diego CAJE convention site.
She calls herself a CAJE in-
stitution, but has no formal
role in the organization. "I
generally do a concert and
keep people up til 3, 4 or 5 in
the morning singing. I have
no particular role. I'm there."
Friedman has several
record albums to her credit
and her newest, "And You
Shall Be a Blessing," will be
released soon.
She wants to keep on
writing and working, but has
no specific plans. But Fried-
man is happy with what she's
achieved so far. "I've really
accomplished what I've
wanted to accomplish."
