Dr. Giles also marveled at the advance in communica- tions which made the telecast possible, noting, "To be receiv- ing information such as this simultaneously with others in American Jewish leader- ship on such short notice would have been unheard of only two years ago." Netanyahu's CJF broadcast was not an attempt to ad- vocate one side of Israeli opi- nion, said Donald Feldstein, associate executive vice presi- dent of the CJF, but was in- stead an informational broad- cast by a popular Israeli figure for the benefit of federation leaders. So she continually plans awareness programs for the community no matter where she resides. While living in Tampa, Sawilowsky launched kosher awareness week in a local supermarket by presenting a slide show and a special ex- hibit with samples of many kosher products. The event was a success, so she opted for a similar one when she moved to the Detroit area almost two years ago. About 1,500 people at- tended last April's kosher food and Judaica crafts fair at the Jimmy Prentis Morris branch of the Jewish Com- munity Center. The event was co-sponsored by The Jewish News and The Jewish Welfare Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. Most recently, Sawilowsky chaired the Lubavitch Women's Organization's first Kashrus Awareness Week here on Wednesday and Thursday. As part of the program, kosher foods and cleaning supplies were displayed at the Farmer Jack supermarket at Maple and Orchard Lake roads in West Bloomfield. A THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 15
