Hillel Foundations Host
Julius Lester For Talk
The B'nai B'rith Hillel
Foundations of Metropolitan
Detroit announce Prof. Julius
Lester will speak Feb.7 at 2
p.m. in Gold Room A,
Oakland Center, Oakland
University, and on Feb. 8 at 2
p.m. in Hilberry Lounge,
Grosberg Student Center,
Wayne State University.
Lester is a full professor in
the department of Judaic and
Near Eastern studies, Uni-
versity of Massachusetts/
Amherst. After teaching for
two years at the New School
for Social Research, Prof.
Lester joined the faculty at U-
Mass. He is the only faculty
member to be awarded all
three of the university's facul-
ty awards and also has receiv-
ed the National Professor of
the Year Silver Medal Award
from the Council for the Ad-
vancement and Support of
Education.
In 1986, the council also
selected him as the
Massachusetts State Pro-
fessor of the Year and for a
Gold Medal Award in the Na-
tional Professor of the Year
competition.
His most recent books are

as New York Times Book
Review, New York Times Op-
Ed Page, Village Voice and
The New Republic. He has
received many awards in-
cluding the Newberry Honor
Medal, National Book Award
Finalist, American Library
Association Notable Book
and the New York Times
Outstanding Book.
Prof. Lester has also record-
ed two albums of original
songs and hosted and produc-
ed a radio interview and
music show for eight years in
New York City and hosted a
live TV show in New York for
two years. His photographs of
the Civil Rights movement
were part of an exhibit at the
Smithsonian Institution and
are part of the permanent col-
lection at Howard University.

Reconstructionist At U-M
Hillel; Ethiopians Aided
The B'nai B'rith Hillel
Foundation at the University
of Michigan announces Rab-
bi David Teutsch, dean of ad-
missions at the Reconstruc-
tionist Rabbinical College,
will speak on Tuesday at 8
p.m. at Hillel, 1429 Hill
Street.
Rabbi Teutsch will speak
on, "Creative Collision:
Ethics and Jewish Business."
On Wednesday, from 9:30
a.m. to 5 p.m., Rabbi Teutsch
will be available for appoint-
ments. Persons interested in
a career in the rabbinate
should contact Hillel,

Rabbi Teutsch, former ex-
ecutive director of the federa-
tion of Reconstructionist Con-
gregations and Havurot, has
also served as program direc-
tor of CLAL. He is co-founder
of the National Havurah
Committee and author of
numerous articles. He is the
chairman of the Reconstruc-
tionist Prayerbook
Commission.
The U-M Hillel Founda-
tion's Mitzvah Project and
Student Struggle for Soviet
Jewry will co-sponsor a day of
awareness concerning the
problems of Ethiopian Jews
on Tuesday.
