Some Older Wishes
For The New Year

DANNY RASKIN

Local Columnist

M

ore wishes for
1989 . . .
That some real
estate agents be given a
course in ethics . . . I know
there are honorable ones out
there, too.
That Leonard Loewenstein
keeps singing "I Had The
Craziest Dream."
That Marilyn and Sid
Frumkin eat home once in a
while.
That Infants Service Group
puts on a production like
yesteryears . . . naturally pro-
duced and directed by
Eleanor Riseman.
That Free Press' Bob
Talbert discovers a weight
program to keep him at the
same poundage regardless of
what he eats.
That the Rex boys of
yesteryears put on another
Club Chez Le Roix.
That George Cantor con-
tinues writing his good stuff
in the Detroit News.
That restaurant reviewers
let restaurant owners know
who they are . . . As Aaron De
Groot, one time blind food
critic of New York Magazine
once told me, "I walk in with
my dog. They know me and if
their best still isn't good
enough, how can anything
else be?"
unsung
That
humanitarians like Lou
Golden are given more
recognition.
That Harold "Cooney"
Finegood has his dream come
true . . . to be crowned king of
the Irish Gaelic Ball.
That while emceeing, Dave
Hermelin introduces his wife
Doreen once iri a while.
That CKLW's Jay Roberts
in the morning keeps getting
better with his relaxed chat-
ter and excellent oldies.
That more sports agents are
liked as much as Rick Brode.
That Billy Jacobs of Bud-
dy's Pizza never forgets those
days of yesteryears when we
played ball in the alley.
That all charities have a
great year.
That Robin and Morris
Margulies have us to more
parties in Club Comfort
nitery at their home.

That we break fast again on
Yom Kippur night with
Margo and Morrie Cohen .. .
Also that we hear Morrie play
trumpet again.
That people take lessons in
being nice from folks like

Mike George and Jimmy
Jonna.
That somebody somewhere
can say they've seen Chuck
Muer in anything but a bow
tie . . . (Just wouldn't be
Chuck without one.)
CONGRATS . . . to Nancy
Saltsman . . . on her birthday
. . . to Linda and Howard
Nudell . . . on their 21st
anniversary.
HATE TO START off the
New Year with a beef, but
can't understand all those
pleas on TV, radio and
newspapers to clothe the cold
at holiday time . . . We called
just about every organization
in the book . . . Goodwill, Pur-
ple Heart, Salvation Army,
etc. etc. . . . "Sorry," they said,
"we have no time available
for pickup." . . . One of them
said, "A truck was in your
area last week. We have no
idea when it will be there
again."
Even National Council of
Jewish Women has a problem
. . . Although much of the
clothes are sold in its Thrift
Shop to promote NCJW's
many fine programs, they too
could not pick up the 13 large
bags filled with clothing
(unless a cancellation came
open.)
True, many people wait un-
til near end of the year to give
away a lot of clothes they
can't or won't wear anymore
. . . and receive tax deductible
receipts . . . But many folks
don't care . . . They're answer-
ing the pleas to clothe the
cold . . . or in NCJW's case, to
aid in its projects.
Why can't any of these
groups prepare for such time
of the year by putting on more
man or woman power? . . . I'm
sure many trucks can be
donated . . . and volunteers
gotten to assist for the short
periods.
