David bought me my first
car, a used 1950ish Chevy
clunker, and taught me how
to drive. I remember that
most of my neighbors had
newer cars, but my car was
the only car that would start
on a cold Michigan morning.
The clunker never was a pro-
blem and was passed on to
other family members.

I wanted to show off my
brand new car, in 1951, so I
drove to my friend Janet
Levy's house. Janet's dad, Ed
Levy, wanting to preserve
that moment, took a picture
with his brand new camera —
the first Polaroid. When look-
ing through my album, I
found that the picture has
turned black. The polaroid
fades, but the memory stays.

During my freshman days
at Wayne, I car pooled with
Nancy Lustig Shapiro, Lor-
raine Yolles Bookstein, and
Rosalie Weiss Almborg. My
1949 Pontiac drove great —
even with no floorboard. The
girls would cover themselves
with Army blankets, never
look down, and hold all their
possessions on their laps.
Quite a few books and
assignments fell through the
gaps in the floorboard, and
how to you explain that to a
professor?

When I was 21 years old,
and working for a Pontiac
dealership, I thought I would
get a good deal on a brand
new 1963 Bonneville. When
the car arrived, additional
costs were added on by my
boss and I felt I was taken ad-
vantage of. Today, I'm an auto
broker.

Our first car was a 1926
four-door Dodge. I drove the
car, while my husband Irwin
took the bus to work from our
home on Churchill near
Twelfth St. It was a nice,
small car. I even drove it to
Florida a few times with Rita,
Avern and the kids.

My first car was a 1958
white Chevy with red in-
terior. And it was hot. I've
always loved cars.
