Speaker Series
For SZ Men

Congregation Shaarey
Zedek's men's club will have
a breakfast series beginning
10 a.m. Jan. 15 in the
synagogue.
The first speaker in the
series will be humorist,
author and teacher, Danny
Siegel, who will speak on
"Mitzvahs, Mentshes and
Everyday Miracles!" The pro-
gram is co-sponsored by
Jewish Experiences For
Families.
The second program in the
series will take place at 10
a.m. Feb. 19 at the synagogue.
Guest speakers will be Marcel
Hage, past president of the
American Lebanese League,
and Talal Turfe, co-chairman
of the American Arabic and
Jewish Friends and board
chairman of the Arabic-
Chaldean Council. Hage and
Turfe will speak on "Hope for
a Renewed Lebanon!'
Judge Avern Cohn will
speak on "Values of the
Jewish Judge" at 10 a.m.
March 19 at the synagogue.
Cohn is a U.S. District Court
judge and past president of
the Jewish Welfare
Federation.
Dr. Dennis Papazian, pro-
fessor of history at the
University of Michigan
Armenian Research Center,
will speak at 10 a.m. April 16
on "Crumbling of the Russian
Empire!'
On May 7 at 10 a.m., Rabbi
Moshe Tutnauer will speak
on "On Being a Conservative
Rabbi in Israel." Rabbi Tut-
nauer's talk will be hosted
by the Berry Family and
the synagogue's cultural
commission.
Arnold Michlin and
Lenoard P. Baruch are
seminar co-chairmen. Mason
Himeihoch is breakfast
supervisor. Dr. Gerald Laker
is men's club president.

Congregation Shaarey
Zedek will host the 56th An-
nual Intercongregational
Dinner on Feb. 9 beginning
with cocktails and hors
d'oeurves at 6 p.m.
The event, held during Na-
tional Brotherhood Week,
was initiated more than 50
years ago by Shaarey Zedek
and temple Beth El. Since
then, the brotherhoods and
men's clubs of all three major
branches of Judaism have
met annually in the spirit of
"Kol Yisrael Chaverim" —
"All Jews Are Brothers."

This year, Rabbi Henry D.
Michelman, executive vice
president of the Synagogue
Council of America, will ad-
dress the group.
Tickets may be purchased
from the various men's clubs
or from dinner chairman Dr.
Mark Diem, 759-1100 or
548-8398.

Lunch And Learn
Set For Jan. 14

The family programming
committee of Congregation
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses
and J.E.F.F. (Jewish Ex-
periences For Families) will
sponsor a lunch and learn
with Rabbi A. Irving Schnip-
per following Jan. 14 services.
After a family-style lunch
and singing led by Cantor
Ben-Zion Lanxner, the
children will adjourn for
programs.
Rabbi Schnipper will
discuss "Who Is a Jew" and
speak about his recent trip to
Israel.
There is a charge. Reserva-
tions must be made by
Wednesday. Dr. Henry and
Janice Citron are co-
chairmen of the event. For in-

Adat Shalom
Hebrew Program

The men's club of Adat
Shalom Synagogue is offering
a Hebrew literacy program for
men and women at both
beginner and intermediate
levels.
The classes will begin next
week and run through the
week of April 9. Participants
may choose either Tuesday or
Wednesday evening classes
from 7 to 9 p.m.
The Hebrew reading pro-
gram is designed to
familiarize congregants with
Hebrew and the structure of
the Shabbat service.

Lawrence
Speaks To Men

The brotherhood of Temple
Beth El will host a breakfast
and lecture on Jan. 15. David
Lawrence, Jr., publisher and
chairman of the Detroit Free
Press, will speak on
"Newspapers: Where We're
Coming From!" The breakfast
will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the
temple's Handleman Hall.
There is a charge.
