Jan. 5, 6, 7, 8 Sinai Hospital 'Not For Sale' KIMBERLY LIFTON Staff Writer A ParlUst of Our Incredible Sale Values S inai Hospital Adminis- trator Robert Stein- berg this week dismissed speculation that Henry Ford Hospital will pur- chase the financially troubl- ed health-care institution, saying "Sinai is not for sale." Officials for Henry Ford and Sinai confirmed meetings bet- ween the two institutions, but declined to give details. Steinberg would only say the hospitals are discussing possi- ble joint projects that would be "mutually beneficial." . Sinai executives also met with Detroit Medical Center representatives. Steinberg said no agenda for associa- tions with either organization has been set, but added that more meetings will take place this month. "We will not talk about sell- ing or buying," Steinberg said. "We want to coordinate - our resources to launch mutually beneficial joint pro- jects." During a recent meeting of the board of trustees, Steinberg said he would not make decisions about the hospital's future without first consulting with the board. Steinberg repeatedly has voiced concerns over Sinai's role within the Jewish corn- munityand has said he is committed to maintaining the hospital as an indepen- dent Jewish-sponsored institution. Steinberg, a longtime hospital trustee before he was named acting chief executive officer in October, was an in- dependent health care consul- tant who served on boards of many Jewish organizations. He replaces Irving Shapiro, who came to Sinai in 1970 as an associate administrator and was named adminis- trator 10 years ago.
