BBYO I BBYO Convention Begins Sunday At Jewish Center B'nai B'rith Youth Organization's regional con- vention will begin Sunday. More than 500 BBYO members will go to the Maple/Drake Jewish Com- munity Center to participate in 16 contests and competi- tions, including for the first time a BBYO Quiz Bowl, which will consist of ques- tions about Judaism, BBYO, Israel and general trivia. The conventioneers will conduct business at their respective monthly Great Lakes AZA and BBG Council meetings on Wednesday. BBYO announces the elec- tion of Steve Weingarden as aleph godol (chapter presi- dent) of Chalutzim AZA of West Bloomfield, and of Dan Berkove as aleph godol of Samson AZA of Southfield. BBYO has a variety of sum- mer programs available to teens. Taking place in Penn- sylvania, Wisconsin, Israel, Washington, D.C., and in- Europe, BBYO's summer pro- grams include chapter and leadership training ex- periences and several oppor- tunities to meet BBYO members from overseas. The 1989 programs include: International Leadership Kallah at B'nai B'rith Perlman Camp in Starlight, Pa., from June 28 to July 26; International Leadership Training Conference at Perlman Camp, from July 26 to Aug. 16; Chapter Leader- ship Training Conference at B'nai B'rith Beber Camp in Mukwonago, Wis., from July 11 to July 24 and July 26 to Aug. 8; Israel Summer In- stitute from June 23 to Aug. 4 (this date is subject to change); International Con- vention at Perlman Camp from Aug. 17 to Aug. 23; sum- mer camp at B'nai B'rith Perlman Camp from June 28 to Aug. 16 and at B'nai B'rith Beber Camp from June 27 to Aug. 17; and the Capital Cities Ibur in Europe and Washington, D.C., from July 5 to July 27.
