Participants will take part
in Shabbat services at Young
Israel of Cedar Road
Synagogue, and will have
Shabbat meals together at
the B'nei Akiva Youth
Center. The topic for the con-
vention is "A Year in Israel"
and several guest speakers
who have recently spent a
year in Israel will discuss
their personal experiences
regarding the many different
programs offered to the
American student in Israel.
The B'nei Akiva year in
Israel program, "Hachshara,"
which incorporates learning
in a yeshivah with work on a
kibbutz, as well as touring
the country, will be described
by a B'nei Akiva member
who recently spent a year on
the Hachshara program.
Locally, Kvutzot Shabbat
groups will meet this Shabbat
afternoon at both Young
Israel of Greenfield and
Young Israel of Southfield for
an afternoon of special Shab-
bat activities. Kvuzot begin at
3:30 p.m. and are open to all
youngsters in grades kinder-
garten-six. Walking groups
can be arranged by calling
the B'nei Akiva office,
967-3742.

"Keeping Kosher: Why and
How" on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
at the Machon IfIbrah Learn-
ing Center, 15221 W. 10 Mile,
Oak Park. Guest speaker for
the evening will be Rabbi
Mordecai Wolmark.
The Machon will present
"Eat, Drink and Be Marry!"
an audio-visual presentation,
followed by a question and
answer period, at the Machon
on Jan. 9 at 8 p.m.
