Conservatory
Band Performs

The Klezmer Conservatory
Band will perform Jan. 14 at
8 p.m. in the Power Center for
the Performing Arts in Ann
Arbor. The 13-member vocal
and instrumental group will
appear under the auspices of
the University Musical Socie-
ty of the University of
Michigan.
Tickets are available at the
Musical Society's Burton
Tower ticket office. For tickets
contact the University
Musical Society, Burton
Memorial Tower, Ann Arbor,
MI 48109; 1-764-2538. Office
hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
weekdays and 9 a.m. to noon
on Saturday.
Hans Netsky founded the
Klezmer conservatory Band
in 1980 while he was an in-
structor at the New England
Conservatory fo Music. He
also directs the ensemble and
plays alto saxaphone and
piano.
The Klezmer Conservatory
Band has released four record
albums: "Yiddishe
Renaissance," "Klez!,""A
Touch of Klez," and "Oy
Chanukah!" The band is also
featured on "Tourists," a live
album released by the radio
program "Prairie Home Com-
panion."

JNF Names

Shabbat Ha'aretz

New York (JTA) — In
response to the 1.2 million
Jewish National Fund trees
destroyed by fire in Israel this
past spring and summer, the
JNF has named Tu B'Shevat,
which falls on Jan. 21, as
Shabbat Ha'aretz.
"Jewish organizations, syn-
agogues and schools through-
out the country have reaf-
firmed their commitment to
our homeland by joining with
us in proclaiming this day
Shabbat Haaretz," said Rab-
bi David Warshaw, director of
the JNF National Organiza-
tions Department.

IPO to Perform
In Toronto

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra and
the Toronto Symphonic Or-
chestra will perform a joint
concert in Toronto next
March, conducted by Zubin
Mehta, the Israel Philhar-
monic's musical director.
The performance will be at
the Roy Thompson Concert
Hall.
