ght olit at (peeled g forces of good and evil will fight for supremacy. When total destruction seems emi- nent Christ will appear, the fighting will stop, and all non- believers, including the Jews, will convert to him or suffer eternal damnation. That is why millenarians see all catastrophes as a sign that God is fulfilling the pro- phecy. As Pat Robertson ex- plained, "We are not to weep as the people of the world weep when there are certain tragedies or break ups of governments or systems of the world. We are not to wring our hands and say, `Isn't that awful?' It isn't awful at all. It is an evident token of our salvation, of where God is taking us?' The pro-Israel community must clearly understand that the religious right is motivated more by the belief that the restoration of Israel is crucial to its religious fulfillment than by the belief that the Jewish people deserve a homeland. Sometimes, politics is a great game. It allows the players to make all sorts of pronouncements and if they are clever enough, never follow through with a con- crete demonstration of commitment. America's religious right has played this game with great success. Over the years, the pro-Israel community has listened to the eloquent ap- peals for U.S. support for Israel from religious right leaders and has been thankful for this evidence that a strong U.S.-Israel rela- tionship is what most Americans — not just American Jews — want. Eventually, though, it became obvious that those statements of support rarely translated into action. With anticipated budget cuts threatening future foreign aid bills, the pro-Israel community must encourage a more active form of support from the religious right. No doubt, statements of support without follow-up action are better than no statements and no action. However, we must not deceive ourselves that statements by themselves amount to effec- tive support. Congressional leaders must continuously be shown that U.S. support for Israel is a priority for all Americans, not just the American Jewish community. The religious right, through an energetic and dynamic grass-roots campaign, can play a vital role in ensuring that the U.S.-Israel partner- ship continues to grow well into the 21st century. priee Enlarged to show detail Straight From The Heart... 14 kt. gold heart pendant surrounded by diamonds (1.05 et. t.w.)
