Lillian Lewis Lillian L. Lewis, a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools for 43 years, died Dec. 6 at age 86. A native Detroiter, Miss Lewis retired in 1964. She was a member of the Detroit Teachers Association and the Michigan Education Association. She leaves four brothers, George, Henry, Phillip of Tuc- son, Ariz., and Albert of In- dianapolis; 13 nieces and nephews; and 26 great-nieces and great-nephews. Rose Leland Rose Leland, a member of Jewish communal organiza- tions, died Dec. 5 at age 97. Born in Russia, Mrs. Leland was a member of Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women and Jewish Home for Aged Auxiliary. She leaves two sons, Dr. Sol and Dr. Louis S. of Ormond Beach, Fla.; four grand- children and five great-grandchildren. Ethel Fishman Ethel Fishman, a member of community organizations, died Dec. 10 at age 92. Born in Russia, Mrs. Fishman was a member of the sisterhood of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, Hadassah and National Council of Jewish Women. She leaves her husband, Morris; a son, Milton; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Diana) Nussbaum and Mrs. Joel (Hilda) Hamburger; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Cohen of New York and Mrs. Sidney (Bertha) Fishman; a brother, Isaac Lansky of Israel; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Arthur Rice Arthur H. Rice, an attorney, died Dec. 12 at age 81. Born in Davenport, Iowa, Mr. Rice was affiliated with the firm of Rice, Rice, Gilbert and Marston. He was an at- torney for more than 60 years. He passed the Michigan Bar at age 19, but was not notified that he passed and was not able to practice law until he was 21. In 1921, he played with the Northern High School basketball team. Mr. Rice was a member of Tam O'Shanter Country Club, Temple Beth El and its executive committee and past president of the temple men's club. He was a national board member of the national organization for temple men's clubs. He was a board member of the Jewish Voca- tional Service, former chair- man of the Professional Divi- sion of the Allied Jewish Campaign. Mr. Rice was a life member of the Commerical Law League of America and a member of the National Association for Credit Management. He leaves his wife, Helen; a daughter, Susan of New York City; two sons, Stuart J. and Stephen; and one grandson. Annie Luborsky Annie Luborsky, a long- time member of Hadassah, died Dec. 10. A resident of Windsor, Ont., Mrs. Luborsky also was a member of Mizrachi. She is survived by a son, Dr. Benjamin; a daughter-in-law, Anne Dann Luborsky; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. NEWS Witnesses Are Sought New York — Canadian and American authorities have asked for the assistance of the World Jewish Congress in locating witnesses and sur- vivors of the crimes of the Nazis. The U.S. Justice Depart- ment is seeking witnesses to atrocities at the Auschwitz concentration camp and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is undertaking in- vestigations into events in Czechoslovakia between 1938-1944. The RCMA is seeking witnesses to the enactment, implementation and enforce- ment of anti-Jewish legisla- tion in Slovakia; Arrest, deportation and ex- ecution of Jews from Bratislava, Bardejov, Banska Bystrica, Krupina and Krennicka; Information pertaining to the Hlinka Slovak People's Party of Hlinka Guard, in Bratislava, Bardejov, Banska Bystrica, Krupina and Krennicka. The Justice Department's Office of Special Investiga- tions is seeking to identify and interview persons im- prisoned at the Auschwitz I concentration camp in Silesia.
