THE

JEWISH NEWS!

admirable traits for customer
satisfaction.
IT'S BEEN there since
Sept. 2, 1987 . . . seating 130
. . . yet many folks are just
getting around to finding
Alfoccino, the nothing fancy,
no-frill family restaurant in
Pepper Square Shopping
Center, Haggerty and 10 1/2
Mile off Grand River.
The eating spot owned by
brothers Frank and Tony
Alfoccino, makes its own
breads, garlic bread sticks,
soups, pastries and pasta .. .
The cleanliness and intimacy
are also plus factors with
booths and tables in one room
. . . Another room has booths
and tables with wicker
shades . . . Burgundy half
drapes are on the windows of
the restaurant which receiv-
ed its liquor license just a
short time ago . . . It also
makes its own Italian dress-
ing . . . with 100 percent corn
oil, no sugar added and no
cholesterol.
Alfoccino family restaurant
is also a family operation .. .
Father Jeff supervises in the
kitchen . . . Frank's wife,
Mary, and Tony's wife, Sudy,
are both hostesses . . . A
cousin, Kay Alfoccino, is in
the kitchen and his wife,
Semin, is also a hostess.
If none of the employees
were to show up for any
reason, the restaurant would
still survive . . . The cooks
have been trained by Frank
and Tony, who could go into
the kitchen and prepare
whatever necessary.
Employees like our waiter,
Alex Bcharouch, are service-
oriented with personable
style.
As a family restaurant
should, it has children's por-
tions . . . Alfoccino is open
seven days, Monday-Thurs-
day, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.;
Friday 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.;
Saturday 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.;
and Sunday 12 noon to
10 p.m.
on
RHINOCEROS
Riopelle and Franklin is pro-
bably the only restaurant in
this region that has enter-
tainment seven days a week
with over 14 different perfor-
mances by at least 15 artists
. . . Monday and Thursday,
5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., is Vince
Shandor Trio . . . Monday,
9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., is Hari
Paris . . . Tuesday, 9:30 p.m. to
1:30 a.m., Juanita Farr .. .
Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. to
8:30 p.m., Earl Van Riper; and
9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Nancy
Wood Trio . . . Friday, Nancy's
trio 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.;
Pinky's Trio 9:30 p.m, to
1:30 a.m. . . . Saturday,
Juanita, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.;
Hari 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. .. .
Sunday, all day entertain-

ment from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
. . . with Hari, 9 p.m. to
1:30 a.m. . . . This Sunday
also has Bob Keller playing
4 p.m. showtunes at its "Ain't
Nothin' But A Divorce Party"
("For divorcees and those who
wish they were") . . . plus
Audrey Horthington, 5:30
p.m. to 8:30 p.m., during
Rhinoceros' Wild Game
Night.
SOME FOLKS ask, "Don't
you write anything bad about
restaurants?" . . . Answer is,
why? . . . Especially when
some owners have their last
dollar in the operation .. .
and the slightest push could
cause a major problem for
them.
Fact is, we just don't write
about every restaurant
visited . . . Better to not say
anything than something
that may hurt many.
Of course, there are occa-
sions when it is best for the
customers to know certain in-
formation which the owner or
manager has been told about
but have done nothing to
improve.
Persons who write about
restaurants should know how
much money it costs to put a
key in the door each day . .
How much insurance is .. .
food costs . ... employee pro-
blems . . . etc. . . . Knowing
these factors might make a
difference.
LARRY SNIDER, presi-
dent of Van Heusen, Hall,
Stevens & Welch food brokers,
tells about his latest products
that won packaging awards
but will be more widely
known for their taste and con-
venience . . . tomato sauce
and dijon mustard in spray
cans . . . Le Ketchup and Le
Moutarde are the first U.S.
distributed products packag-
ed in the patented Enviro-
Spray dispensing system.
The Enviro-Spray Grow-Pak
barrier pouch contains the
safe carbon dioxide propellant
and separates it from the sur-
rounding product for a 100
percent pure, full-bodied
delivery.
GALA ON ICE at
Southfield Ice Arena has
world champion skaters Peter
Applegard and Jill Watson,
tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. . . . It's
to benefit the Ronald
McDonald House of Detroit, a
home away from home for
sick children . . . "Home 4
The Holidays: a Gala on Ice"
will be hosted by Mort Crim
and Carmen Harlen and also
broadcast live on WDIV.
SUNDAY CONCERT
series at Somerset Mall, W.
Big Beaver, Troy, has songster
Phil Marcus Esser 2 p.m.-
4 p.m. this Sunday . . . No
charge for concerts in-
Somerset's center court.
