Hadassah in Detroit and a
past president while in
Florida.
She leaves a son, Leon
Belin; a daughter, Mrs. Nor-
man (Rhoda) Rittman; seven
grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren.



Abe Schmier

Abe a. Schmier, a practicing
attorney for more than 60
years, died Dec. 5 at age 85.
Born in New York, Mr.
Schmier lived more than 80
years in Detroit. He was
k graduated from the Unersity
of Detroit Law School in the
early 1920s. He was the first
Jewish athlete given a
scholarship at the University
of Detroit.
He was a member of Perfec-
tion Lodge of the Masons, a
member and former officer of
the Hannah Schloss Old
Timers, member and former
board member of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek, former
officer of the Old Newsboys
Goodfellow Fund, a member
of the Wayne County and
Michigan State Bar Associa-
tions. In 1973, he was a can-
didate for the Southfield Ci-
ty Council.
He leaves his wife, Doris;
three daughters, Mrs. Peter
(Celia)Copeland, Mrs. Jo
(Carol) Isaacson and Mrs.
Morton (Marilynn) Collins; a
brother, Walter of San Diego,
Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Philip
(Frances) Donon and Mrs.
Joseph (Sophie) Moses; 17
grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Meyer Millman

Meyer Millman, a retired
pharmacist, died Nov. 30 at
age 81.
Born in Poland, Mr.
Millman lived 70 years in
Detroit. He retired in 1975.
He resided in Pompano
Beach, Fla., at the time of his
death.
While in Detroit, he owned
many drug stores. He was a
past president of the former
Congregation Beth Aaraon
and its men's club. He par-
ticipated in the merger of
Congregation Beth Aaron
and Ahavas Achim and was a
founder of the new congrega-
tion, Beth Achim. Mr.
Millman was a life member of
its board.
He was a member of the
Michigan Pharmaceutical
Association and the Masons.
He is survived by his wife,
Sarah; a son, Lawrence of
West Bloomfield; a daughter,
Mrs. Bruce (Marjorie) Karp of

Ann Arbor; three sisters, Mrs.
Belle Rimer of Beverly Hills,
Calif., Mrs. Lillian Belkin of
Oak Park and Mrs. Max
(Gladys) Moiseev of
Southfield; and five grand-
children. Interment Detroit.

Rabbi Ellenbogen

Seattle (JTA) — Rabbi Ed-
ward Ellenbogen, formerly
the ranking Jewish chaplain
in the U.S. armed forces, died
Nov. 27 at age 76.
Rabbi Ellenbogen had serv-
ed as deputy command
chaplain of the Strategic Air
Command in Omaha, Neb.,
from 1961 to 1964 and as a
base chaplain at McChord Air
Force Base in Tacoma, Wash.
He was a retired U.S. Air
Force colonel. He had been a
part-time rabbi at Seattle-
area temples over the years.

Dr. R. Berman

Dr. Robert H. Berman, a
retired cardiologist, died Dec.
2 at age 90.
Born in Brazil, Dr. Berman
lived in Detroit more than 88
years. He was graduated from
the University of Michigan
Medical School in 1926 and
practiced in Detroit since his
graduation. He practiced for
more than 40 years in the
former Eaton Tower (now
David Broderick Tower). He
later practiced in the David
Whitney Building until his
retirement in 1983.
He was a fellow of the
American College of Car-
diology, a fellow of the
American College of Chest
Physicians, a member of the
Detroit Heart Club and Phi
Delta Epsilon Medical
Fraternity.
Dr. Berman was on the staff
of Sinai Hospital since its
opening. He studied violin
with Leopold Auer in New
York.
He leaves his wife, Jule; a
daughter, Sheila of
Washington, D.C.; a son,
Daniel of Portland, Ore.; a
sister, Grace Bramson of New
York; and one granddaughter.

Immune Deficiency Syn-
drome by the mid-1990s.
