people is at stake, they said.
"We believe that no one in-
dividual or group has a
monopoly on holiness."
Conservative Judaism is
the largest American Jewish
religious movement, claiming
36 percent of the country's 5.8
million Jews. The Reform
movement represents 30 per-
cent, the Orthodox 10 per-
cent. The rest are
unaffiliated.
The Reform movement has
made no formal appeal that
contributions to supporters of
the so-called "Who Is a Jew"
amendment be curtailed.

Dragnet Catches
Illegal Workers

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Police and
government agents conducted
a dragnet in six Israeli cities
and towns last week to round
up foreigners illegally work-
ing in Israel.
Ten teams, including police
officers and inspectors of the
Employment Service and In-
terior Ministry, swept
through Tel Aviv, Holon,
Herzliya, Yavne, Ashdod and
Bat Yam.
They hit restaurants, bars,
hotels, factories and other
places aliens are likely to be
employed illegally.
At the end of the day they
had captured 120 workers,
mostly from the Philippines,
Thailand, Portugal, Ghana
and Britain.
Officials say the campaign
will be extended.

Jewish Art
Exhibit Planned

Belgrade, Yugoslavia (JTA)
— The Yugoslav capital will
play host next month to the
largest exhibition of native
Jewish art, culture and
history ever mounted in this
country.
"Jews on the Territory of
Yugoslavia," opens here Jan.
16 for a six-week run.
Because of its size, it will be
shown in two sections. There
is no hall in the city to con-
tain all of it, said Milica
Mhailovic, curator of Bel-
grade's Jewish Museum.
The exhibit may eventually
travel to Tel Aviv, London and
New York. It was seen last
April through June in Zagreb,
capital of the Yugoslav pro-
vince of Croatia, and during
the summer in Sarajevo,
capital of
Bosnia-Hercegovina.
Jews lived in the country
that is now Yugoslavia for
nearly 2,000 years, and before
r World War II it was home to
more than 80,000 Jews. To-
day, the Jewish population
numbers roughly 6,000.
