he Friends of Kaplan Medical Center
in Rehovot, Israel, and the Michigan
Opera Theatre recently co-sponsored
"Broadway Night" at the Fisher
Theatre to benefit AIDS research.
The gala featured a strolling dinner provid-
ed by 24 restaurants, a fashion show produc-
ed by Leah Marks and musical selections from
Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.
Honorary chairman Louis Golden in-
troduced Dr. Zvi Bentwich, a physician and
immunologist at Kaplan Medical Center.
Golden first met Bentwich on a trip to Israel
and learned of his research to fight AIDS.
Bentwich and colleagues from Kaplan and
the Weizmann Institute are developing drugs
to inhibit the spread of AIDS. With a limited
budget they are planning to release a self-
