brings you instant visibility."
Fox played football,
baseball and basketball at
Detroit Central High School,
earning seven varsity letters.
He was All-City in baseball in
1957, hitting .310 as a
catcher-first baseman.
He graduated from Wayne
State University with
bachelor's and master's
degrees in health and
physical education in 1964.
He has since completed all his
doctoral work — except for his
dissertation — in curiculum
and administration at Wayne.
Fox received a college
scholarship from the National
Jewish Welfare Board which
required him to work at the
Detroit Jewish Community
Center. That was particular-
ly convenient for him since he
was working there already.
Fox began his coaching career
with the JCC basketball team
in 1958.
He later coached football
and basketball at Central and
at Bloomfield Hills Roeper,
where he was also the AD. He
coached baseball and basket-
ball at Oakland Community
College, where he ended his
coaching career in 1975. "I
had coached for close to 20
years," he says, "and frankly
that was enough. Coaching is
pretty taxing and it's very in-
tense. It's far more difficult
these days than it was years
ago because of the recruiting
aspect and all the other social
aspects that play a part of
coaching. It's not just the
teaching and instructing any
more; it's all the other
variables that you have to
deal with. That really
becomes difficult."
Fox has also served as direc-
tor of the Michigan Amateur
Athletic Union, Wide Track
Festival administrator and
athletic coordinator for the ci-
ty of Pontiac.
Fox considers himself com-
fortably settled at UM-D. "I
like the student body. I like
the philosophy of the school.
I think we're headed in a
positive direction?'
