The B'nei Akiva-Young
Israel youth movement will
schedule activities for its
members for over the Thanks-
giving weekend. Members of
the Chevreyah Bet Chapter,
grades nine-12, will meet for
a "Chinese melava malkah"
on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the
home of Elana Chessler,
28395 Brooks Ln., Southfield.
The group will prepare and
sample different Oriental
dishes, take part in a Chinese
auction, using facsimilies of
the Chinese Yuan to do their
bidding, and will discuss and
learn about the lives of the
Jews living in China, past
and present. For reservations

The Chevreyah Zach
Chapter, for youth in grades
six-eight, will hold a bowling
tournament on Sunday. The
group will meet at Young
Israel of Southfield at 2 p.m.
to go to Hartfield Lanes.
Following the event, the
group will have an ice cream
social.
There are a limited number
of tickets remaining for B'nei
Akiva members to go to the
performance of the Miami
Boys Choir on Dec. 10. For
reservations, contact the
B'nei Akiva office, 967-3742.
Preparations are underway
for the opening of the new
branch of B'nei Akiva at
Young Israel of Greenfield.
Opening date is scheduled for
Shabbat Chanukah. The new
branch at the Young Israel of
Greenfield will offer educa-
tional and entertainment pro-
grams for youth in three age
divisions: Chevreyah Aleph,
for grades one-five;
Chevreyah Zach, for grades
six-eight; and Chevreyah Bet,
for grades nine-12. Weekly
Kvutzot Shabbat groups will
be held at the synagogue for
elementary-aged youngsters.
B'nei Akiva is a religious,
Zionist youth organization,
affiliated with Mizrachi-
HaPoel HaMizrachi and the
Young Israel movement. For

B'nei Akiva
Tours Israel

New York — B'nei Akiva of
North America has opened
registration for its Israel sum-
mer program, Mach Hach
B'Aretz. This program is open
to graduates of the 10th
grade.
The tour offers its par-

ticipants a chance to see
Israel as well as an opportuni-
ty to participate in it. The
first 10 days are spent learn-
ing and working. The pro-
gram also offers extensive
touring through the north
and south of Israel and in
Jerusalem area.

Center Scout
Troop Enrolls

The Jewish Community
Center's Boy Scout Troop 14
is enrolling boys in grades
five and up.
The troop was recently
presented with a U.S. flag and
charter in special ceremonies
with the Jewish War
Veterans. The troop was also
represented at the recent
regional meeting of the Na-
tional Jewish Committee on
Scouting held at the Center.

AZA Council
Names Mayo

Eric Maxon of Farmington
Hills and David Pollack of
Southfield were elected of-
ficers of the Great Lakes AZA
Council. Maxon is the new
Aleph Mazki (secretary) and
Pollack was elected to the
newly created position of
Aleph Shotare Godol
(sergeant-at-arms). He is in
charge of creating a spirit
item. Pollack recently served
as the AZA kickoff dance
coordinator for Michigan
Region BBYO and is
treasurer of Rose AZA.
Maxon was the AZA coor-
dinator of last month's BBYO
Leadership Training In-
stitute and recording
secretary in his chapter, Men-
doza AZA.

Girls Attend
Holocaust Event

Michigan Region, B'nai
B'rith Girls, will send five
representatives to the Inter-
faith Youth Symposium on
the Holocaust on Wednesday.
Liz Greenberg (Shira BBG),
Jimi Jo Meretsky (Masada
BBG), Deborah Walker (Shira
BBG), Lori Freeman (Yaffe
BBG) and Rachel Rosen
(Shoshana BBG) will repre-
sent BBG and BBYO at the
coming together of an inter-
faith group of area high
school students.
