FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1988

Call 855-WINE

omething seemed fishy
. . . especially when Jer-
ry Robbins was told
about going to dinner at Ex-
calibur with wife Marge and
Nita and Joe Silberschein
after a "short visit to Glenn
Silberschein's chiropractic
meeting at the Colony Park
Clubhouse."
After all, Jerry thought,
this was Sunday . . . and why
in the world is Excalibur
open? . . . However, trusting
soul that he is, Jerry thought
maybe Marty Wilk and the
gang there decided to make it
, a seven-day operation.
Well, Marge pulled off her
surprise again . . . and Jerry
walked into a clubhouse with
about 80 or more people sing-
ing "Happy Birthday" on his
number 60.
Centerpieces were the same
as Marge made for his 50th
. . . except for the humorous
cards in each one with dif-
ferent jokes about reaching
60.
Joe Forbes, former state
representative now a member
of Gov. James Blanchard's
cabinet as Director of Job
Training, still remembering
his "Sonny Boy" routine as
wife Rena said, "He'll never
forget it" (Joe and I did it a
thousand years ago in the
Oak Park Follies when he
was mayor of the town) .. .
Shel Cornfield recalling
about 13 delis within a five-
mile radius years back on
Dexter . . . as wife Dee did a
fine job cleaning off our table
(no, she's not for hire) . . . Ed-
die Rosenberg with his usual
jokes and wife Shirley with
her usual laughs as the man
she loves tells them . . . Big
lineup at the large halvah .. .
some going back for seconds,
thirds, etc.
Irwin Stein going out to
what looked like his car, bare-
ly touching the door handle
and off went Lou Popper's
alarm . . . Boy, that's a bit too
delicate for my blood . . . I'd be
afraid to park the buggy near
anything else . . . Videotape
shown with greetings to Jerry
from daughter and son-in-law
Nancy and Michael Mandell
in Van Nuys, Calif.
District 26 Judge Steve
Cooper a video camerman for
the night . . . Marge's brother
not missing a trick . . . like
his work on the bench .. .
Mollie Cooper, Marge's
mother, and Aunt Rose Lie-
berman first ones there so
acted as hostesses greeting

people . . . Daughter Donna
and Rock Evans helping
before and after the party .. .
Seems like Rock never left .. .
was there the next day, too .. .
Michael Robbins taking still
shots and extra ones, too, of
wife Sandy . . . Debbie Rob-
bins back in Detroit after 12
years away from home .. .
tired of continual transfer in
insurance game of other cities
. . . Jerry's mom, Helen Ger-
son, seeing the belly dancer
twisting and turning around
her seated and smiling son,
saying "It's enough already!"
So many people pitching in
to help . . . Phyllis and David
Barr, Jerry and Mitch Harris,
Betty Pianin, Torchy Silver-
man, Lenore Kahn.
Mini penguin cupcakes by
Sweet Art given to candle
holders Rita Aisuss, birthday;
David Barr, 40th birthday;
Jerry Harris, birthday; Mar-
shall Mandell, birthday;
Jerry Mandell, 60th birthday;
Gene Scarponi, birthday; and
Frieda Raskin, birthday.
Also to . . . Marge and Don
Borkin, anniversary; Nancy
and Marshall Mandell, first
anniversary; and Joe and
Nita Silberscein, 40th an-
niversary . . . Nita and Joe
will take a Caribbean cruise
to celebrate . . . but not
romantically alone . . .
They're also bringing son
Glenn and wife Jean, son
Steven and wife Ronna and
grandson Graham.
Informal buffet food was by
Mark Zorkin . . . and you'll be
hearing a lot about fine
songstress Marla Jackson
who worked with Bill Meyer
on the synthesizer keyboard.
Also fish mold by Bea
Mandell, eggs and caviar by
Harriet Etelman, quiche by
Madeline Harris, baked and
smoked salmon by Liz
Freedman.
Marge and Jerry moved
from Oak Park to West
Bloomfield . . . and took
centerpieces with them .. .
Look for the scrap metal shav-
ings (Jerry has the scars to
show for their picking at his
yard) on his 70th, 80th . . . etc.
Happy birthday, Jerry .. .
Sorry Kirk Gibson didn't
show up . . . He refused to
shave . . . even for you.
IN CASE you didn't know,
this has been Winter
Awareness Week as declared
by Gov. James Blanchard
(Nov. 20-26) . . . So forget the
50 and 60 degree weather .. .
If you want to know what to
do during the cold weather,
call Southfield Emergency
Management, 354-9152.
