Student Essay Is Published An essay, "Reflections on Ice" written by Shoshana Krieger has been published in the November-December issue of Young Author's Magazine. Shoshana is a 12th grade student at Sally Allan Alexander Beth Jacob School for Girls. Shoshana's sister, Evelyn, is the author of an article, "Don't- Read Records in Ad- vance" published in the September issue of Learning Magazine. A 1987-1988 recipient of the Horace Mann Grant, Evelyn presented her work "Develop- ing Reading Comprehension Through Author Awareness" at a recent Horace Mann Col- oquim in Boston. Evelyn is a graduate of the Sally Allen Alexander Beth Jacob School for Girls. She received her bachelor's degree in early childhood education from New York University and her master's degree in remedial reading from Har- vard. She is a junior high school reading specialist in Newton, Mass. Shoshana and Evelyn are the daughters of Byron and Jocelyn Ruth Krieger of Southfield. GUtmann Is Art Adviser Dr. Joseph Gutmann, pro- fessor of art history at Wayne State University, was adviser to an exhibit at the New York Public Library. The exhibit, "A Sign and a Witness: 2,000 Years of Hebrew Books and Il- luminated Manuscripts" will be on display until Jan. 14. He also contributed a chapter entitled "Forming the Great Collections" to the catalogue of the exhibition. Dr. Gutmann will be the featured speaker at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York on Monday. His topic will be "What Can Jewish History Learn from Jewish Art?" Dr. Gutmann gave a paper "Masorah Figurata in the Mikdashiyah: The Messianic Temple in 14th-Century Spain," at the International Organization for Masoretic Studies meeting in Chicago.
