A gala tribute dinner spon- sored by the Women's Divi sion of Israel Bonds honored Miriam Sheiik- man with the National Golda Meir 90th Anniversary Tribute Award. Mrs. Shenkman received a silver replica of the late Mrs. Meir's favorite brooch. Barbara Stollman, incoming na- tional chairwoman of Israel Bonds Women's Division, presented the award at Congregation Shaarey Zedek with 250 guests attending. "She is like an Israeli general leading the troops to battle," said Stollman. Stollman and Linda Goldman, chairman of the event, both noted Shenkman's dedication to the Jewish community and love of the State of Israel. The after-dinner fashion show created for Israel Bonds by the Israel Company for Fairs and Exhibitions and the Israel Export Institute of Tel Aviv featured haute couture by Israeli designers. Communal leader Miriam Shenkman is honored at the Israel Bond fashion show and dinner women, the luscious leathers were in an array of colors including a silver ensemble with a matching beaded belt. The crowd reacted to the swimsuit collection of Gideon Oberson. The designer chose black and white stripes and polka dots for his extraordinary swimwear. Other fashions included knitted outfits in black and grey, angora sweaters and bold-colord raincoats perfect for day. Evening attire includ- ed velvet pantsuits, sequined outfits and silk dresses. Oded Gera, Tamara Jones, Sara Miller, Gideon Oberson and Tadmor were among the Israeli designers featured. The Israel fashions often in- clude clothing and fabrics made in Israel from the cotton grown there. Many guests look forward to annual fashion show including Elaine Brateman, mother of Jonathan and Dr. Robert Brateman, who came from Ft. Wayne, Ind. Marsha Beresh, Mrs. Shenkman's granddaughter, came to help honor her grandmother. ❑ The show began with models danc- ing in spectacular leather outfits. The crowd applauded the dramatic opening. The leather for men — pants and jackets — was in basic black and brown. A black and silver sequined two-piece. Black, grey and silver knitted outfits by Niba, and trenchcoats from•Kosins.
