Three families related to each other live on Elmhurst . . . House at 2961 Elmhurst had the late Mollie and Morris Levin upstairs with their five children, Jackie, Nancy, Larry, Arlene and Adele . . . Downstairs in the 2963 flat were Mottel and Kalman Zate with their son and three daughters, Seymour, Gladys, Betty and Dolores . . . Another Levin family resided at 2677 Elmhurst . . . Eva and the late Eddie Levin with children Susie, Melvin and Sheldon. For 40 years, the Levin Family Club has been meeting monthly at each other's homes, usually on a Saturday eve . . . Every five years for the last 25, its gala anniversary party has been an occasion when the gather- ing of cousins, who call themselves The Elmhurst Players, provide entertain- ment by poking gentle fun at the Levin elders . . . pepper- ing the "comedy-drama" with Yiddish shtick about what goes on at the family meetings. They've been doing it since the 25th anniversary party . . . Seymour Zate, Gladys Zate, Dolores Fox, Adele Nodler, Arlene Gurecki, Nan- cy rIbppor, Susie Mecklir with hubby Gary and Sheldon Levin . . . Saturday night at Cong. Since 1948, through good times and bad, births and passings, the Levin descen- dants have been getting together as - a regular dues- paying club once a month .. . With the passing of time, they have learned the value of this unique family experience .. . and take the opportunity to celebrate themselves. This is wonderful . . . Reminds me of the vivid good times by Abraham and Anna Raskin Family Club . . . Life doesn't get much better than the joy of family club meetings and socials. Itobert Syme perform a wedding one night and do an invocation the next, you know it's been a couple of very entertaining evenings .. . Here's a rabbi whose extreme wit and knowledge can put an audience into the ultimate throes of whatever occasion he may be at. Rabbi Syme married Pam Lewis and Nathan Littlefield recently at Panache in Bir- mingham . . . and while under the chupah brought out the meaningfulness of this joyous occasion . . . while still performing the serious ritualistic endeavors of his profession . . . Over 100 peo- ple laughed and thoroughly enjoyed Rabbi Syme, Ursula Walker and the Panache food. Next evening, about 550 people at Cong. Shaarey Zedek listened with much in- tent as he did a very clever parody-type invocation that achieved its purpose without the usual staid and trite sort of presentations . . . It was Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame's 3rd annual awards banquet . . . with excellent food and service by caterer Paul Kohn's staff . . . and a fast-paced evening that saw the induction of table tennis champ Chuck Burns, tennis star Leonard Brose and Northwestern High's great coach, the late Sam Bishop . . . a wonderful man about whom his former football and track stars can't say enough.
