"THE PRICE IS TWICE AS NICE"

Waltham, Mass. — Most
Jews give money to some
Jewish philanthropy, but the
vast majority give only 2 per-
cent or less of their annual in-
come, with a sizeable propor-
tion giving less than 1 per-
cent, find two researchers at
the Brandeis University
Cohen Center for Modern
Jewish Studies.
In a new study, "The Rela-
tionship Between Jewish
Identity and Philanthropy,"
Drs. Mordechai Rimor and
Gary A. Tobin find:
• Jews who give to Jewish
causes are also the most like-
ly to give to non-sectarian
causes.
• Persons who volunteer
time for Jewish causes are not
necessarily the most likely to
donate money for Jewish
causes, and when they do
donate money they are not
always the most generous.
• Jews who have visited
Israel are the most likely to
give to every type of Jewish
philanthropy.

ly to give to Jewish philan-
thropies in general — but
they are not especially likely
to give to Federation.
