friends, count our philan-
thropic dollars. An increase in
giving would be a symbol of
our dedication to Israel and to
our own survival.
H is for Home economics.
Financial self-sufficiency is
essential for Israeli in-
dependence. We must buy
Israeli products, invest in
Israeli companies, and most
of all visit the Jewish state.
Aliyah if possible, but tour-
ism certainly strengthens
Israel economically. It not on-
ly gives her the resources to
endure, but it gives the
Jewish state the moral sup-
port to hang on against over-.
whelming odds.
I is for Involvement. It is
necessary to affiliate with a
synagogue, JCC, AJC, etc.
The list of meaningful Jewish
organizations is long, and
there is something for every-
one. Re-learning what
Judaism says and does is not
only personally enriching, but
it strengthens the entire
Jewish community. Belong-
ing to, and taking leadership
roles in our organizations is
both fulfilling and sets a
positive example for our
families and friends.
N is for News media. We
must challenge the media's
demonization of Israel.
Although our press is free,
that doesn't mean it's free of
prejudice. We have to be a
truth squad continuously ex-
posing their bias and inac-
curacy. Letters to the editors
work; talking to editors and
reporters is better; owning
the paper is best. Truth is our
most powerful weapon.
U is for Unity. If American
Jewry can say with one clear
voice that the Jewish state
must live, we will be heard.
No matter how much we may
disagree on any number of
issues, this must not over-
shadow our common purpose
of securing the survival of the
Jewish state.

P is for Politics. We need to
immerse ourselves in the
political process, especially in
this presidential election
year. Candidates who support
Israel should in turn be sup-
ported. There are several
PACs, both locally and na-
tionally, that can serve as
vehicles for expressing our
concerns. Write your repre-
sentatives, senators and ad-
ministration officials to tell
how important it is for
America to stand with our
besieged ally,. Israel.
