Antonini, chair- man and chief executive of- ficer of the Kmart Corp., on Thursday Dec. 1 at the Westin Hotel. Kenny G (real name Gorelick) began his profes- sional career as soloist in Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra. He later joined a local band call- ed "Cold, Bold and Together." He attended the University of Washington, majoring in accounting and was graduated magna cum laude and earned a Phi Betta Kap- pa key, but continued with his music. He worked as a sideman with Liberace, Johnny Mathis, the Spinners and Diahnn Carroll. After college, Kenny G was hired by Jeff Lorber to join his Portland-based band, the Jeff Lorber Fusion. He spent four years with him and in the Kenny G process, Arista Records made him an offer to do a solo album. In 1982 "Kenny G" was released. In 1987, Kenny G perform- ed "Songbird" an instrumen- tal on "The Tonight Show." He then played it on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" and on "The Late Show."
