B'nei Akiva Shabbaton
Scheduled This Weekend

This weekend marks the
first in a series of Shabbaton-
conventions geared exclusive-
ly for the Zach Chapter, the
junior high group of the B'nei
Akiva-Youth Israel youth
movement. Local members
from the sixth, seventh and
eighth-grade group will be
joined by a large delegation
from B'nei Akiva of
Cleveland.
The theme for the Shab-
baton is "Ben Adam
L'Chavero — The Jewish
Outlook on the Mitzvot Bet-
ween Man and His Neighbor."
The youth will participate in
services and Shabbat meals
together at Young Israel of
Southfield, and will take part
in an Oneg Shabbat program
and group learning sessions
and discussions dealing with
how they can take an active
role in helping their fellow
Jew.
Guest speakers at the Shab-
baton include Rabbi
Elimelech Goldberg, rabbi of
Young Israel of Southfield;
and Yehuda and Adina
Rothner, former directors of
B'nei Akiva Camp Stone, ad-
visers to B'nei Akiva of
Cleveland. Following the
theme, the Zach group will
visit the Jewish Home for Ag-
ed during the three-day con-
vention. Other activities
scheduled include a roller-
skating party and ice cream
social and a scavenger hunt
at the Tel-12 Mall. Upcoming
events for the local junior
high chapter include a bowl-
ing tournament, a Chanukah
extravaganza and a paint-
your-own-T-shirt contest.
B'nei Akiva-Young Israel of
Southfield Youth activities
are planned for the other divi-
sions of B'nei Akiva: The
Chevreyah Aleph group, of
first through fifth graders,
will hold a Sunday Fun Day
at the Young Israel of
Southfield on Sunday.
Members will participate in a
"Candy Capers Event," in-
cluding the screening of the
movie Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory. Following
the film, youngsters will be
invited to different candy-
making booths where they
will be able to make Wonka-
like candies to take home.
The event is scheduled for 2
p.m. at Young Israel of
Southfield. For information,
contact Annette Appel,
967-3742.
B'nei Akiva is a religious
Zionist youth movement,
open to all youngsters, grades
one-12. All activities are
geared to each specific age
group. B'nei Akiva is the

youth movement of Young
Israel Synagogue. For infor-
mation, contact the B'nei
