Rabbi Delivers
Book Review

Rabbi Sherwin Wine of the
Birmingham Temple will
deliver the second of four
reviews on the theme "New
Jewish Books" at 8:30 p.m.
Monday at the West Bloom-
field Jewish Community
Center.
Rabbi Wine will discuss his
new book, Celebration, under
the theme "Celebrating
Judaismin a New Way."
The event is co-sponsored by
the Birmingham Temple and
the Michigan Coalition of
Secular and Humanistic
Jews. Admission is free.

Concert Is
MAZON Benefit

New Age composer and
pianist Peter Kater will per-
form in concert 7:30 p.m. Sun-
day at Temple Kol Ami. An
afterglow with refreshments
will follow.
Proceeds from the event
will be donated to MAZON,
the Jewish response to
hunger.

Simcha Has
Shabbat Rite

Simcha, a Jewish lesbian
and gay organization, will
hold its first Shabbat service
today at 8 p.m.
Immediately following a
brief service, there will be an
Oneg Shabbat. Refreshments
will be served.
Simcha was established to
meet the social, religious and
cultural needs of the Jewish
lesbian and gay community.

Kristallnacht
Proclamations

Washington (JTA) — The
governors of all 50 states have
issued proclamations com-
memorating the 50th an-
niversary of Kristallnacht,
Nov. 9-10, the U.S. Holocaust
Memorial Council reported
Tuesday.
The proclamations, which
were issued at the council's
request, also were issued by
more than 150 mayors
throughout the United
States. They urged their con-
stituents to "always strive to
overcome prejudice and in-
humanity through under-
standing, vigilance and
resistance."
