Through the project, "BBYO Can Make a Dif- ference," members of local B'nai B'rith Youth Organiza- tion chapters will promote the purchase of Israeli pro- ducts at local stores. They will identify Israeli products now available and encourage store owners to sell goods made in Israel. BBYO , officials are coor- dinating the project with Sam Fisher, executive director of the Fresh Air Society, and Shelly Jackier, executive director of American-Israel Chamber of Commerce. BBYO representatives will collect information and com- pile it into a pamphlet, which will identify local stores that carry Israeli products. Jackier hopes to have the project completed for Israel Independence Day next spring. "We want to identify Israeli products in the community and create public awareness about the products available for purchase," Fisher said. If the project is successful, it could make a positive im- pact on Israel's economy. Fisher also noted, "The educational aspect of the pro- ject also is very important." Liz Greenberg, a Michigan regional vice president of B'nai B'rith Girls, and Jon Fried, a Michigan regional vice president of AZA, are heading the project for BBYO. Members of BBYO had their first taste of en- trepreneurship during the re- cent BBYO leadership train- ing conclave at Camp Maas in Ortonville. The theme of the conclave was "BBYO Is Big Business." The conclave was coor- dinated by BBYO members Lara Wineman and Eric Max- on, along with BBYO Assis- tant Director Adele Lewin, who helped develop the "BBYO Can Make A Dif- ference" project. Last Sunday, Jackier and Fisher hosted a training ses- sion for the BBYO canvassers. The youth learned about Israel's economy and Israeli products along with some marketing techniques, such as how to approach a store owner through role playing. They were also provided with a kit which consisted of infor- mation about Israeli products available and questionaires to be completed by store owners. A couple of members from each of the 32 chapters at- tended the training session, and they will report to their respective chapters and teach the other members what they learned. Each chapter will canvass local stores in its area with members breaking into pairs and going out twice a month for about two hours. "If the project is successful, it will set a model for BBYO," Weiner said. "It's important to motivate and educate our youth." IN BRIEF 1"'"" DAVID B.
