"That way, future generations of Jews identify with the Jewish com- unity and take leading roles." George M. Zeltzer, chair- man of UJCharities' Federated Endowment Fund, built on Mandel's genera- tional theme in his closing remarks. "We are talking about money that goes beyond the rainy day. It is a vision of the future that is not just an accumulation of these dollars, but how to properly use them. It has to be done in a way that will build the com- munity from generation to generaton." Satellite School Continued from Page 5 they prefer classes to begin now or in the fall. Parents and temple officials met last August to consider the satellite school. According to Dressler, parents approached temple of- ficials with the idea. Nolish explained that many parents with children in the temple midweek Hebrew school live in the area of Maple and Orchard Lake roads and beyond, which are at a distance from Oak Park, where Temple Emanu-El is located. "We've had a number of re- quests (for a satellite school) from our members who find it inconvenient to reach the temple for midweek Hebrew classes," Nolish said. Midweek Hebrew school classes are now being held Tuesday and Thursday at 4 p.m., when traffic is heavy from other areacommunities to the temple, Nolish said. "I know of one family whose daughter gets home from school at the same time our Hebrew classes start," he said. More than 150 students are enrolled in the Temple Emanu-El Hebrew school pro- gram, about 40 of whom are expected to attend classes at the satellite school, Nolish said. Classes in West Bloomfield will be held on Wednesday. The Hebrew classes now be- ing offered at the temple on Tuesday and Thursday will continue. While Nolish stressed that the decision to open the satellite school is based on the temple's desire to better serve congregants, he added that "it wouldn't hurt me if it attracts new members." Joseph Poisson, education director at Ibmple Israel, said he doesn't believe the temple will be affected by another Reform school in West Bloomfield. "Our program is doing very well," he said. "It's very strong and we've got good registration."
