The use of color, animation
and television videos, and
help and vocabulary menus to
teach Hebrew has attracted
interest beyond the university
community. Detroit's United
Hebrew Schools has been con-
sidering joining with U-M to
further develop and expand
the department's computer
and interactive video projects,
with the possibility of even-
tually beginning a similar
center of its own as a pilot
project within the Detoit
Jewish community.

Group Backs
Jailed Reservist

A jailed Israeli reserve
lieutenant has become the
first "refusenik" adopted by
the Ann Arbor Friends of
Yesh G'vul. Yesh G'vul is a
grass-roots organization of
Israeli reserve soldiers who
refuse to serve in the West
Bank and Gaza.
Daniel De Mal'ach became
the 42nd soldier to be jailed
for refusing to serve in the
territories since the Palesti-
nian uprising began in
December 1987.
Yesh G'vul gives the
refusenik's dependents $450
to partially replace the loss of
the national insurance sti-
pend given to reservists.
Friends of Yesh G'vul in-
clude Ann Arbor New Jewish
Agenda, the Progressive
Zionist Caucus, and the
Southeast Michigan Political
Committee of Americans for
Progressive Israel.
