bomb threat against
Temple Israel Oct. 27
was not directed at
the temple or a member of the
congregation and was not an
act of anti-Semitism, West
Bloomfield Police Sgt.
Michael Madigan said this
week.
Police declined to release
details of an ongoing in-
vestigation, but said they
have ruled out anti-Semitism
as a motive.
An unknown caller phoned
the congregation at 8:19 p.m.,
forcing officials to evacuate
about 600 people attending a
wine tasting benefit, police
said. -
Police arrived at Thmple
Israel about five minutes
after the threatening phone
call, Madigan said. Police in-
spected the building for more
than an hour, but did not find
any explosives.
"There wasn't much to it,"
Madigan said. "We knew it
was a hoax almost from the
beginning."
Police are investigating. No
suspects have been identified.

Future School
Sites Probed

Future needs for educa-
tional facilities is the trust of
a research project launched in
Southfield and surrounding
communities by Con-
gregataion Shaarey Zedek.
The congregatiOn's future
planning committee will
distribute a questionnaire to
members to determine their
opinions on current and
future facilities for educa-
tional programs. The con-
gregation now leases educa-
tional facilities from other
organizations, in addition to
the facilities in its own
building.
Including the opinions of
fellow congregants in the
research, the planning com-
mittee will decide whether
the current lease ar-
rangements should be renew-
ed. Alternatives to the cur-
rent arrangements include
renting other properties or
building new educational
facilities for the congregation.
The survey will afford
members the opportunity to
participate in the planning
decisions, including recom-
mendations for the location,
size and functional features of
new facilities.
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek leases facilities at Or-
chard Lake Middle School for
its religious school branch
and at Moss Nursery School
on Middlebelt Road for its
Beth Hayeled Nursery
branch.
