UM MIDWEST MISSION TO ISRAEL
New Israeli
Voters Favor
Likud Party
JANUARY 15-25, 1989
Almost twice as many
Israelis between the ages of
18 and 22 who will vote for
their first time this year
prefer a victory by the Likud
Party.
According to a poll pub-
lished in the Israeli
newspaper, Ha'aretz, 41.6
percent of voters in this age
bracket want a Likud victory,
while only 22.1 percent want
Labor to be triumphant.
Slightly more than 40 per-
cent of 18- to 22-year-olds
believe Likud can better han-
dle their country's "most
pressing problems!' Only 20.8
percent think Labor can bet-
ter address these issues.
Twenty-two percent of 18- to
22-year-olds are undecided
about their voting preference.
All sorts of things have
been said over the years about
Israel's airline, El Al, most of
which we won't go into here.
But in an article in the Oc-
tober issue of Conde Nast's
Traveler magazine, El Al is
bashed for the quality of its
in-flight wine selections. A
panel of what the magazine
calls "six of the world's most
celebrated palates" rated El
Al's wines the worst of those
offered by the 27 airlines it
sampled.
El Al's total score for its two
wines sampled by a panel of
wine writers was 20.58 —
almost 14 points below top-
ranking SAS and just below
the "quite dreadful"
Bordeaux wine served by the
Japanese carrier, JAL. The El
Al offerings — a 1986 Yarden
Galil Sauvignon Blanc and a
1981 Carmel Galil Cabernet
Sauvignon — were dismissed
as "very bad national wines!'
The El Al wines were unap-
petizingly described by Kevin
Zraly, author of a best-selling
book on wine, as "being dried
out and having a tea-leaf
smell!'
L'chayim!
QQ,
stit Etarph
through its espionage is evi-
dent, since it not only com-
promised all of Israel's
intelligence services with its
report, but it left the report
unprotected and unshredded
in the Tehran embassy. That
the report was unnecessarily
captured and circulated
among Israel's enemies says
something about CIA securi-
ty!'
