AGES 5-17 Goldstein Double Winner Gene Feldman Arnie Waxman Linda Goldstein continued her strong freshman perfor- mance at West Bloomfield High School at the Oakland County swim meet last weekend. Goldstein was the meet's only double-winner, taking the 200 freestyle (1:56.75) and the 500 freestyle (5:16.45). Goldstein has posted state tournament qualifying times in six individual events: the 200 IM (2:17.95); 100 butterf- ly (1:02.55); 100 freestyle (56.2); 500 freestyle (5:14.8); 100 backstroke (1:04.09); and the 200 free (1:56.75). Hall To Induct Star nio The fourth group of in- ductees to the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame includes tennis great Lenny Brose, table tennis champion Chuck Burns, and the late Sam Bishop, long-time foot- ball, baseball, and track •-o coach at Detroit's Nor- thwestern High School. Brose is one of the best ten- nis players ever to come out of the Detroit area. In 1951, he led Michigan State Universi- ty to the Big Ten tennis cham- pionship and was the con- • ference singles champion. He was an NCAA quarterfinalist that year as well. Brose is a five-time Detroit champion and three-time Michigan champion. Brose won both the state tennis and squash championships in 1961, the national seniors tennis cham- pionship at age 45 in 1973 and took the silver medals for the U.S. in the 1985 Mac- cabiah games. Burns is one of the nation's pioneers in table tennis. He was the Michigan men's champion 17 times, won 27 national titles and 17 inter- national titles. In 1962, he was the playing captain of the U.S. team for international oPI competition. He also served as president of the United States Table Tennis Associa- tion during 1963 and 1964 and was inducted in the United States Table Tennis Hall of Fame in 1984.
