Janine 'Palmer, daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel 'Palmer,
will share her bat mitzvah
with Riva Baazov during ser-
vices at Temple Beth El on
Nov. 5.
Riva is the daughter of
Rafael and Zina Baazov of
Georgian SSR, USSR. Riva's
parents first applied for an ex-
it visa in 1978 and were refus-
ed in 1979 because of army
service. Riva will be 13 this
year, but because it is forbid-
den by Soviet law for anyone
under 16 to take part in a
religious ceremony, she will
be denied her right to be a bat
mitzvah. Baazov's sister and
father both live in Israel.

David Young, son of Susan
and Jeffrey Young will twin
the observance of his bar
mitzvah celebration Saturday
at Adat Shalom Synaogue
with Yusif Manashirov, son of
Yangil and Manashirov
of Derbent, USSR.
The Manashirovs have been
trying to emigrate to Israel
for 10 years to be reunited
with his parents. Authorities
have denied them exit visas
on the grounds that
Manashirov once served in
the army.
David has written to Yusif
and he will attempt to reach
the family by phone.

Twins Ceremony
Rachel Helene Jacobs,
daughter of Gilda and John
E. Jacobs, recently twinned
the observance of her bat
mitzvah celebration at Tem-
ple Emanu-El with Riva
Baazov, daughter of Zina and
Rafael Baazov of the USSR.
The Baazov Family applied
to leave in 1978 and was
refused in 1979 because of
Baazov's army service. He is
a driver.
