Israel Enrichment Focus Of NCSY Youth Contest In a joint effort to inspire Jewish youth in utilizing their creativity to increase their awareness of the cen- trality of Israel to the Jewish people, Tower Air has in- itiated the first Israel Enrich- ment Contest to be sponsored under the auspices of the Na- tional Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY), the youth movement of the Orthodox Union. According to Rabbi Mark Cohn, regional director of NCSY, the contest will allow NCSY to continue to reach out to both affiliated and non- affiliated Jewish youth and providing them with scholar- ships to attend Israeli educa- tional institutions and par- ticipate in NCSY events. A total of six prizes will be awarded to participants in three categories. Contestants should creatively interpret the theme of the meaning of the centrality of Israel to the life of the Jew in one of three media of a photo, poster or slogan. The contest is open to the public, private and yeshivah high school students — those who have visited Israel and those who have not. The first prize is a round- trip ticket to Israel. There will be prizes and refreshments for all participants. Following the event, B'nei Akiva counselors will hold auditions for the B'nei Akiva Players Drama Club, and the Rokdot Dance Troupe. The groups will prepare for a per- formance at the annual B'nei Akiva family Chanukah par- ty on Dec. 4. The ninth grade Shevet of B'nei Akiva will hold a Torah learn-athon day on Sunday at the Young Israel of Southfield. Local rabbis and community members will lead sessions on Torah and Jewish law during the five- hour marathon. All proceeds from the learn-athon will help subsidize the annual Shevet weekend which is held in Detroit each February for Shevet members throughout the region.
