Grey was brought up in a
traditional Jewish home. He
celebrated his bar mitzvah
and remembers celebrating
the Jewish holidays at his
grandfather's house.
"My dad's father was very
Orthodox," Grey recalls. "My
observance of the Jewish
holidays slowly dissipated as
the generations passed, and I
am very sad about it."
Grey has a son, James, 24,
who is a cook, a cat, Betty,
who travels with him and a
daughter, Jennifer, 28, who is
following in her father's
footsteps as an actress.
She has starred in such
films as Ferris Bueller's Day
Off and more recently, Dirty
Dancing.
"I wasn't encouraging Jen-
nifer to pursue acting when
she was in school. I felt
alienated as a kid actor. She
waited to begin her acting
career until after she
graduated high school," says
Grey. "I am very proud of her;
she has made it on her own.
What kind of Jewish father
would I be if I wasn't proud of
my daughter?"

Two local actresses,
Henrietta Hermelin Wein-
berg and Shirley Zaft Benyas,
share a lot in common.
Both West Bloomfield
residents, currently perform-
ing in Michigan Opera
Theatre's production of Follies
at the Fisher Theater, are
veterans of Detroit's Attic
Theater, Actors Alliance
Theatre Company, - Hilberry
Theater and have been in-
volved with the newly formed
Readers Theater (under the
auspices of the Institute of
Retired Professionals at the
Jewish Community Center).
In July the two traveled to
Greece with a University of
Detroit acting company to
perform in an English version
of Euripides' The Trojan
Women.
