Council Meets
To Elect Officers

B'rith
B'nai
The
Metropolitan Detroit Council
will hold its regular monthly
delegates meeting at 7:30

p.m. on Wednesday at Laurel
Woods club house. The 1989
slate of officers will be
presented, followed by the
election.
A reception will be hosted
at 6:45 p.m. by the Pisgah
Lodge, Al Schwartz,
president.

Hebrew Class
Begins Monday

The men's club of Congrega-
tion Beth Shalom will resume
its Hebrew literacy program.
The introductory course,
"Shalom Aleichem," offers
those with no working
knowledge of Hebrew an op-
portunity to learn to read the
language.
Classes will begin Oct. 24.
The class will run for 12 con-
secutive weeks at 7 p.m. at
the synagogue. The fee in-
cludes the text.
A more advanced class,
"Ayn Keilohaynu," will begin
in the spring and will offer
those with some reading
skills an opportunity to im-
prove and become more com-
fortable with the Shabbat
morning service.
Checks should be made
payable to the Men's Club.
The registration fee must be
received by Sunday. Space is
limited. For details, call the

Seminary Cites
Detroiters

Five local community
leaders have been inducted
into the Jewish Theological
Seminary's Centennial Hall
of 100. They are: David B.
Hermelin, Daniel L. Knopper,
Lawrence Jackier, Louis
Berry, and the late Joseph
Jackier.
The Centennial Hall will be
dedicated at 3 p.m., Oct. 30 in
the Seminary Library.
The Hall of 100, located in
the Seminary Library, honors
those men and women who
pledged $100,000 or more to
the Seminary's Centennial
Campaign.

Crash Course
In Hebrew

Aleynu, the Partnership for
Jewish Adult Education, is
again sponsoring a five-week
crash course in Hebrew
reading. The crash course was
developed by the National
Jewish Outreach Program.
Free classes will start in
November. They will be
located in Oak Park,
Southfield and West
Bloomfield.
