BLOOMFIELD — Efros Rx ELIZABETH KAPLAN Staff Writer W hen Boghrat Sadeg- han was 15, he bought a cheap guitar and began studying classical music. lbday, 21 years later, he is a performer and a composer who has written more than 50 classical pieces and 15 folk songs. A recent immigrant from Iran, Sadeghan will perform a concert of Hebrew, English and Iranian music at 8 p.m. Thursday at Congregation Beth Abraham Hillel Moses. His concert is being spon- sored by the synagogue's cultural commission. Sadeghan was born in Iran, the fifth son of Jewish parents. Boghrat Sadegan: Escape from Iran. As a child, Sadeghan was interested in art — a talent he nurtured when the family im- migrated in 1965 to Israel. There, he painted on rice bags because the family couldn't afford canvases. When Sadeghan's mother became ill, she and her son returned to Iran. Sadeghan studied in a Jewish high school and learned English by reading books and newspapers and listening to the radio. He also began playing classical guitar and con- tinued his interest in pain- ting at a conservatory in Teheran. When he was 20, Sadeghan was drafted into the Iranian army. He played guitar for the officers and drew portraits of fellow soldiers, using his small army salary to purchase pens, pen- cils and drawing paper.
