twin the observance of his bar
mitzvah celebration Saturday
at Adat Shalom Synagogue
with Ilia Khanukaev, son of
Mulaim and Zakharia
Khanukaev of Derbent,
USSR.
Ilia will be 13 but as it is for-
bidden by Soviet law for
anyone under 16 to take part
in a religious ceremony, he
will be denied his right to
have a bar mitzvah.
Marc has written to Ilia and
he will attempt to reach the
family by phone.

Klebanov is an engineer.
Since applying for an exit
visa in 1979, he has not been
allowed to work in his profes-
sion and was forced to take on
menial work to support his
family.
There is no synagogue in
Cheliabinsk, which is a hard-
ship for this religious family.
Klebanov writes to friends in
Israel that they manage to
gather a minyan quietly for
the holidays. The Klebanov
family speaks fluent Hebrew.
Daniel has written to David
but has received no response.
