JAP Myth Is Theme For Women's Institute "JAP — Dispelling the Myth of the Jewish American Princess" is the theme of the Jewish Welfare Federation Women's Division 41st an- nual Institute Nov. 2-3 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. On Nov. 2, the community is invited to a 7:30 p.m. pro- gram on Jewish stereotypes. There is a nominal charge. The program will feature Susan Weidman Schneider, editor-in-chief of Lilith Magazine, the nation's only independent magazine for Jewish women. The University of Michigan Hillel's "Talk To Us" theater troups will perform short scenes and then involve the audience in a discussion. On Nov. 3, Weidman Schneider will speak, follow- ed by a panel discussion moderated by Richard Loben- thal, Michigan regional direc- tor of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith. The Institute includes a continen- tal breakfast, beginning at Women Hear Mary Travers The Allied Jewish Cam- paign Women's Division will host entertainer Mary Travers at a meeting for ma- jor contributors Oct. 21. Travers will speak to the Lion of Judah ($5,000) section •U• Mary Travers at noon at the Franklin home of Elyse Schostak. As a member of the Peter, Paul and Mary folksinging group, Travers has entertain- ed audiences around the world. She is known interna- tionally through her involve- • ment in human rights. Her song "Light One Candle" became the theme for the Soviet Jewry rally in Washington last December. Funds raised through this event are used to benefit the emotionally disturbed boys living at the B'nai B'rith Women's Children's Home in Israel, a world renowned treatment facility supported solely by B'nai B'rith Women in the United States. Event chairman, Barbara Gutenberg, will introduce special guest speaker, Marj Jackson Levin, feature writer for the Detroit Free Press.
