The
American-Israel
Chamber of Commerce of
Michigan is hosting its fourth
annual meeting on Oct. 27,
6:30 p.m. at the Northfield
Hilton in Troy.
The meeting includes
keynote speakers, a presenta-
tion of Israel Trade Awards to
four Michigan businessmen
and a dinner and dessert buf-
fet. It is open to those who are
interested in learning about
how the Chamber can offer
assistance in initiating or ex-
panding business interna-
tionally and to learn about
the latest business oppor-
tunities available.
Uri Bar-Ner, Consul
General of the Mid-West, will
present an overview of the
political-economic situation
in Israel today, the status of
the Free Trade Agreement
between the U.S. and Israel,
reflections on the effect of the
November elections both in
the U.S. and Israel, and the
results of the new governmen-
tal policy of denationalization
of key industries.
The Israeli Trade Commis-
sioner, David Litvak will
focus on the latest
developments in high
technology, the progress in
the various industrial sectors,
and the effect of the "in-
tifada" on business, and will
also highlight the tax and
financial incentives for con-
ducting business with Israel.
Four Michigan
businessmen will be reci-
pients of the Israel Trade
Award, the first time the
Award is being presented by
the American-Israel Cham-
ber of Commerce of Michigan.
The recipients are: William
Davidson, president, Guar-
dian Industries; Paul Bor-
man, president, Borman's
Inc.; Murray Snyder, chair-
man, Brasscraft Manufactur-
ing, subsidiary of Masco
Corp.; and Charles Gelman,
president and CEO of Gelman
Sciences, Inc.

Lifton Named
Acting CEO

Donald B. Lifton, Detroit at-
torney and international
business consultant, has been
named acting chief executive
officer of Ariadne Australia
Ltd., an Australian Stock
Exchanges-listed, multina-
tional investment company
with interests in manufactur-

ing, real estate, natural
resources and financial
services.
Lifton joined Ariadne as its
deputy managing director in
January 1988.
He was asked by the
Ariadne board of directors to
act as interim chief executive
officer following a major
change in the company's
shareholdings and the
resignation of chairman R.B.
Corlett.

Schwartz
Named
To State Board

Burton H. Schwartz has
been appointed by Gov. James
Blanchard to the State Of-
ficers Compensation Commis-
sion. The commission consists

of seven members, appointed
by the governor, to serve four
year terms.
The purpose of the commis-
sion is to determine the
salaries and expense
allowance of the Governor,
Lieutenant Governor, the
Justices of the Supreme
Court and the Members of the
Legislature.
