Adat Shalom synagogue will host a gala dinner Sun- day in honor of Rabbi Efry Spectre. The evening will mark Rabbi Spectre's 10th year as spiritual leader of the synagogue and his 25th year in the rabbinate. Author Elie Wiesel, reci- pient of the 1986 Nobel Peace Prize, will be the evening's principal speaker. The event will begin with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. a tribute to Rab- bi Spectre will be held in the main sanctuary, where Rabbi William Lebeau, vice chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary, will present Rabbi Spectre with an honorary doctorate degree. Dinner will begin at 7:15 p.m. and an address by Elie Wiesel will follow. Samuel Frankel is serving as the evening's honorary Rabbi Efry Spectre chairman. Dinner co- chairmen are Sharon Hart and Joel Gershenson. The Four Seasons String Quartet will present music during the cocktail hour. The Fenby-Carr Orchestra will provide dinner music. In honor of Rabbi Spectre, his -brother Rabbi Philip , Spectre, and sister-in-law, Barbara Spectre, will present the sermon during services Saturday. Rabbi Phillip Spectre is ex- ecutive director of the Masor- ti (Conservative) movement in Israel and was rabbi of Congregation Netzach Israel inAshkelon for 14 years. Mrs. Spectre is an instructor at the Hebrew University Universi- ty'David Yellin Teachers Col- lege and chairman of the board of the Masorti Rab- binical School in Israel. A kiddush will follow ser- vices. The kiddush will be co- sponsored by the synagogue's sisterhood, men's club, social club, youth department, nursery school and the Adat Shalom branch of United Hebrew Schools.
