Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Janet) Bichkoff and Mrs. Shirley Lowther of British Columbia; a brother, Sumner Cotton of Worcester, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. Alice Kay; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Peter Clayton Peter Clayton, who worked in the advertising depart- ment of the Detroit Free Press, died Oct. 8 at age 90. Born in Russia, Mr. Clayton lived 60 years in Detroit. He was a member of Adat Shalom Synagogue and its men's club, Jewish Communi- ty Center and Louis Marshall Lodge of B'nai B'rith. He is survived by his wife, Anne; two sons, Gerald and Melvin; a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Eleanor) Selvan; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Post. Leslie Schmier Leslie R. Schmier, an at- torney and real estate developer, died Oct. 10 at age 74. Born in Detroit, Mr. Schmier was the past presi- dent of the Wayne State University Alumni Associa- Joseph Shapiro fl Joseph Shapiro was a true patriot. A veteran with a high record for service to the U.S., he expressed his devotion in his multiple memberships in veterans' movements and his activities in them for nearly six decades. He became an admired member in the community with his enthusiasm for pro- Joseph Shapiro gramming in the Home for Aged where he died Oct. 9 at age 97. For many years, until only about three years ago, he was a constant visitor at The Jewish News, bringing with him his poetry which was fre- quently published in the newspaper. Born in London, England, Mr. Shapiro came to the U.S. in the early 1900s. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I and was awarded the Purple Heart and the French Medal of Honor.
